Katigiorgis is a small tranquil self contained Greek fishing village tucked away in a picturesque location with superb landscape and stunning views where you can enjoy a peaceful holiday away from the crowds which you wont find in many/if any of the main tour operators holiday brochures or websites The sandy beech is about 5 minutes walk from our apartment which is located on the hillside overlooking the village surrounded by mature Olive and fruit trees. There is ample off street parking within the walled garden area which has an electric gate onto the road which leads down to the village. A small village square provides parking and access to the two beachside tavernas, a café and coffee shop, a bar and two small shops/mini markets all nestled beside the village church and small harbour with boat ramp access. A regular licensed water taxi service runs throughout the day & evening to and from Skiathos.
To enjoy the surrounding area you will need a car and hire cars can be arranged a number of options (See website links below)so you can fly into Skiathos, get a taxi 12 miles across the island to Koukounari beech and take the water taxi (See contact details below (+30 6980 200 200) across to Katigiorgis harbour if you don't fancy the drive down from Thessaloniki. For those adventurous ones amongst us you can get a local bus from Thessaloniki airport to the cities coach station and take a coach down to Volos and perhaps a taxi the 1.5 hours ride to Katigiorgis.
This year Easy Jet have introduced a new route into Volos airport throughout the Summer which gives you plenty of options. Its is best though to be self sufficient with a hire car as its not a good idea relying on public transport to get back to the airport particularly when you have a plane home to catch!
Car Hire Options:
Look for the option to rent from the Kala Nera office and negotiate with them a price to deliver the car to Katigiorgis, the same with European car rental. Circa Euro 80 each way

If you can travel outside of the school holidays you can get over to Greece for as little as £30-50 one way on a lot of the websites with little difference in the prices coming back either.
What you cant do is go out with one airline and come back on another trying to book a cheap one way flight on each as their websites recognise you are trying to book from the UK and offer you a similar rate to a standard return flight

The journey down to Katigiorgis is both enjoyable and an opportunity to see more of the beautiful cities, towns and villages on the way. We have found EasyJet the best from Gatwick leaving at 05.55 gets into Thessaloniki at lunchtime (2hrs ahead) leaving plenty of time and daylight for the drive down. "018 saw Easy Jet start a new Summer route into Volos airport which halves the drive time and distance to KatigiorgisThere are numerous car hire agencies around the airport who offer a free minibus shuttle to their sites. British Airways also fly into Thess but are more expensive and arrive late evening. It is mostly duel carriageway all the way down with a number of tolls (Total approx. 15 euros) and country B roads for the last 40K. It is just under 300K from Thessaloniki to Katigiorgis but there are plenty of things to see on the way and numerous rest stops and cafes. Allow approximately 4 hours You can download and print off easy to follow almost turn by tur driving directions but also a good idea to take your satnav.
We always stay in a hotel close to Thessaloniki airport the night before we fly home. The outbound flight leaves at 11.10 so there is plenty of time for breakfast and dropping the hire car off enroute which takes the stress out of it all. We use Booking.com. Having tried a few the best in our opinion is The Royal Hotel Thessaloniki at Peraias. 10 minutes straight drive to the airport (Not at all noisy) stunning views very friendly staff, great pool and open air bar area. (See the pictures on their website for yourself) Its Good value for money we can NOT fault it! If you have dropped your hire car off at the nearby car rental site the night before a taxi will cost about 20 euros to the airport. If you fancy breaking a fortnights stay with an overnighter in-between we also thoroughly recommend Despotiko again off Booking.com another stunning hotel mid way between the two.
The majority of the taverna owners and staff in the village speak good English but appreciate a please or thank you in Greek so don't forget your phrasebookThere are NO ATM'S in the village and the tavernas don't take cards so remember a good supply of Euros!
Although you will no doubt look after the apartment and keep it clean and tidy as if it was your own we do have a local Greek lady!
who does the laundry & cleans and prepares for the next quests. Rental is between £550-650/week L - H season. We are not aware that Katigiorgis is in any of the mainstream holiday brochures. In High season there are two daily tripper boats from Skiathos that come in for lunch but stay less than 2 hours before returning. Once you have experienced the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful village you will not want to tell anyone else about it preferring to keep the secret of it all to yourselves for next year!
